Description
An AFO (ankle-foot orthosis) is a plastic brace used to stop the foot dropping in foot drop syndrome. It holds the foot at 90 degrees and stabilises the ankle, so the toes catch the ground less while walking and the stride becomes more natural. It is used in weak dorsiflexion and peroneal weakness. The plastic shell is slim enough to be worn inside an ordinary shoe — a practical feature that lets the orthosis be worn continuously through the day. Sizing follows shoe size, so state your size when ordering. In the first days of use, check regularly for redness or pressure marks where the orthosis touches the skin. If the aim is instead to hold the foot at 90 degrees and prevent rotation while resting in bed, a resting AFO (footguard) is the more suitable product.
