Description
The frog splint takes its name from the shape that wraps the finger on both sides, which gives a steadier hold than flat splints that support from one surface only. The aluminium body bends by hand so the required angle can be set, while the foam lining keeps the metal off the skin. It is used to hold the finger in extension in finger injuries, tendon ruptures and drop-joint conditions. The splint is secured with tape, tight enough to hold but not so tight that the fingertip goes numb or discoloured. Lengths and widths vary, so the size should be matched to the finger — a splint that falls short will not support the joint properly. How long it is worn and which joint is immobilised should be decided by your doctor.
