Description
A lancet is the sterile, single-use needle loaded into a lancing device to obtain a drop of blood from the fingertip before a glucose test. Compatibility with your device is the one thing to check when buying: this product comes in two types — the round blue-bodied lancet fits the universal lancing devices common on the market, while the flat white lancet fits Accu-Chek devices. The wrong type either will not seat in the device or will not deliver the set depth. Use a fresh lancet for every test; a reused lancet has a blunted tip, which means a more painful prick and more tissue damage at the fingertip. To make testing more comfortable, prick the side of the finger rather than the centre of the pad, where nerve endings are denser, and do not use the same finger repeatedly. Keep the device's depth setting at the lowest effective step for your skin. Used lancets must not go into household waste; collect them in a puncture-resistant sharps container. Lancets are personal and must never be shared under any circumstances.
