Description
This size of Bactigras measures 5 × 5 centimetres and suits small wounds and narrow areas such as fingers and the back of the hand; choosing the right size rather than cutting a larger one preserves sterility. The dressing is made from leno-weave gauze impregnated with soft paraffin and contains 5% chlorhexidine acetate BP. It is used as a low-adherent wound contact layer on minor burns and scalds at risk of infection, on lacerations and abrasions, and on graft sites. Because it does not stick to the wound, newly formed tissue is not damaged at a dressing change. Its open tulle weave lets exudate pass through to an absorbent secondary dressing placed over it, so it is used together with a second dressing rather than on its own. The chlorhexidine acetate it carries is released slowly and stays active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria over a prolonged period. It is sterile and individually wrapped; do not use if the pack is open or damaged.
