Description
A tube-type air mattress is built from independent air tubes running across the bed, which the pump inflates and deflates in turn so the body's contact points keep changing. Compared with bubble-type mattresses each cell is larger and deeper, which is why the tube format is generally chosen for higher pressure ranges and for users who spend longer periods in bed. Firmness is set to the patient's weight, and this setting matters: left too soft the body sinks between the tubes, set too hard the pressure cycle is no longer felt. The ventilated construction helps reduce moisture building up between the skin and the mattress surface — a detail that directly affects comfort during long periods in bed. The CPR valve empties the mattress within seconds so a firm surface is available if emergency care is needed; carers should know where this valve is before they need it. The mattress is made from medical-grade PVC, is laid over the existing bed mattress and wipes clean.
