Description
A bedpan is a receptacle made for patients who cannot get out of bed to relieve themselves where they lie, used in hospitals and in home care for bedbound patients. This model is made of polypropylene (PP) and contains no carcinogenic substances. Polypropylene is the material of choice for frequently washed items like bedpans because it is both light and resistant to hot water and common cleaning agents. When positioning the pan, lift the patient's hips slightly, work with two people where possible, and lay an absorbent pad or protective sheet underneath — this matters both for the patient's comfort and for protecting the bed. After use, empty the pan and wash it with hot water and a suitable cleaner, then dry it and store it in a covered place. For patients confined to bed long-term, the pan should not press against the skin for extended periods; do not leave it in place longer than necessary, to avoid adding to pressure ulcer risk.
