Description

The Frejka pillow splint is an orthosis used in the treatment of developmental hip dysplasia to hold an infant's hips flexed and abducted; it consists of a padded pillow that sits between the legs and straps that pass over the shoulders. The aim is to keep the femoral head correctly seated in the socket so that the joint develops in that position as the baby grows. The fabric is a purpose-made waterproof material — a detail that matters for cleaning and service life, given that nappy leakage is a daily reality with an infant orthosis. The sections in contact with the legs are foam padded, reducing pressure marks at the straps and edges. The material's flexibility lets the baby make the hip and leg movements it needs; an orthosis that immobilises completely is not appropriate for development. Four infinitely adjustable plastic buckles make it easy to put on and take off and allow readjustment as the baby grows. The size range is set from the measurement provided by the doctor, and the angle and width settings must be made only by the treating physician. Check the skin daily and keep every follow-up appointment.
