Description
An elbow crutch spreads the load along the forearm rather than concentrating it at the wrist, thanks to the cuff. Compared with a straight cane, that means less strain on the hand and wrist — which is why it is preferred for long-term use and where a substantial part of the body weight goes onto the support. The FS-923L can be used singly or as a pair. The cuff should grip the forearm a few fingers' width below the elbow, not high up the arm: set too high it blocks the elbow from bending, set too low it puts the load back on the wrist. Handle height should be level with the wrist crease when standing upright with the arm hanging loose. Another advantage over a straight cane is that the hand can let go of the grip without the crutch falling away, which makes opening a door or grabbing a handrail much easier. Replace the rubber tips as they wear.
