Description
A forearm crutch transfers part of your body weight to the ground through the forearm and hand. It is less bulky than an underarm crutch, puts no pressure in the armpit and is easier to use on stairs and in tight spaces, but it asks more of the user's upper body and grip strength. On the FS-933 both the overall height and the position of the cuff can be adjusted, with the height stepping through a 95–126 cm range that covers a wide span of user heights. Setting it correctly matters: standing with your arms relaxed at your sides, the handgrip should sit level with your wrist crease, leaving the elbow bent about 15–20 degrees when you grip it. A badly adjusted crutch leads to shoulder and wrist pain. The anatomic handgrip spreads the load over a wider area of the palm. If you use a single crutch, the rule is to hold it on the side opposite the affected leg. Check the rubber tips for wear regularly; a worn tip markedly increases the risk of slipping on wet floors.
