Description
A height measure is the basic tool for following growth in children and for calculating body mass index in adults; taking the measurement the same way in the same place each time is what makes the recorded values comparable. This mechanical unit reads from 60 to 200 cm and its 1 mm scale shows small changes — the resolution needed to follow a child's growth from year to year. It fixes to a wall, and because it can also be fitted to suitable scale models it lets a surgery take weight and height at one station. It needs no batteries or mains power, so it keeps working to the same accuracy for years with no maintenance. Getting the zero point exactly level with the floor during installation is critical; a mounting error of a few millimetres carries through every reading as a fixed offset. When measuring, the person should stand without shoes, heels together and back against the wall, with the head held in a level line of sight. Before ordering, make sure the wall you plan to use has at least 220 cm of clear height.
