Description
A tablet crusher turns medication into powder for people who cannot swallow a whole tablet; it is a simple but critical aid that makes medication possible for older people with dysphagia, patients recovering from a stroke and those fed by tube. There are two steps: separate the body into its two parts, place the tablet in the cradle, then fit the second part and press so the tablet is reduced to powder. The powdered medicine can then be lifted from the cradle and mixed into water, yoghurt or pureed food. To be sure the full dose is given, collect any powder left in the cradle and clean the chamber after every medicine; residue from different drugs mixing together is not acceptable. Coated, enteric and extended-release tablets can behave differently once crushed, so always ask your pharmacist or doctor which of your medicines may be crushed.
