Description
A nebuliser set is the patient-side consumable of a compressor nebuliser: the medication cup, the tubing that connects it to the unit, and the mask worn on the face. The machine cannot be used without these parts, and they are consumables that wear out over time. The medication cup turns liquid medicine into a fine mist using compressed air; a blocked or cracked cup means less of the dose reaches the lungs, which is why it should be replaced at regular intervals. The set comes in adult and paediatric sizes; in children a mask that fits the face properly matters especially, since mist escaping at the edges means both lost medication and eye irritation. Keep the cup upright during use and continue the session until the medication is finished. After every session wash the cup and mask in warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly and air dry; parts left damp grow bacteria and mould. Do not let water into the tubing — tubing is not washed. Your doctor decides which medication to use and how often to run a session.
