Description
The Riester babyphon is a palm-style aneroid sphygmomanometer set assembled for taking blood pressure in children and babies. What defines the set is the three cuffs it includes: neonatal at 15.5 × 5 cm, infant at 23 × 7.2 cm and child at 35.5 × 10 cm. In paediatrics cuff width decides the result — a cuff too wide for the arm reads low and one too narrow reads high — so having all three on hand lets one instrument give reliable readings across age groups. All cuffs are latex free with velcro closure. The Ø 63 mm linear scale reads 0–300 mmHg with a ± 3 mmHg tolerance. The measuring membrane is hardened copper beryllium and withstands overpressure up to 600 mmHg, which protects the mechanism against the sudden pressure loads that rapid inflation can produce. The chromium-plated precision valve allows fine control of deflation and is shielded from dust and moisture by a micro filter. The gauge sits in a sturdy plastic casing with a spoon-shaped stainless steel handle and comes in a padded nylon zipper case.
