Description

A clavicle brace is worn in a figure-of-eight across the back and pulls the shoulders backwards. That position helps keep the ends of the collarbone aligned, which is why the brace is widely used for clavicle fractures, particularly in children. It is made in three sizes — S, M and L — chosen by torso measurement; the right size matters so the straps work without digging in under the arms. Tension is adjustable: the brace should be firm enough to hold the shoulders back but not so tight that it affects circulation or sensation in the arms — if numbness is felt, the tension should be reduced. The treating doctor should set both the wearing period and the tension.
