Description
An ice bag is filled with ice or cold water to apply cold to a chosen part of the body, and it is the most common approach in the first hours after a sprain, a strain or a blow. The Galena ice bag is made from a polyurethane and fabric composite; its high heat capacity holds the cold for a long time, so it does not need refilling repeatedly during a session. Unlike single-use cold packs it can be filled and reused indefinitely, which makes it the more economical choice for someone who trains regularly or needs cold application often at home. Ice goes in through the neck, which is then closed, and the flexible body conforms to the shape of the area being treated. Cold application should not exceed 15 to 20 minutes on the skin, and the bag is best placed over a thin cloth rather than directly against the skin. Where circulation is impaired or sensation is reduced, cold should only be applied on medical advice.
