Description
The Jewett brace — sold locally as 'juvet korse' — is a hyperextension orthosis designed to limit forward bending of the trunk. The aluminium frame applies pressure at three points: the sternum, the pubic area and the back. That arrangement holds the spine in slight extension and takes load off the anterior column. Fabric padding keeps the frame from pressing directly on the skin. A screw system adjusts height and width to the individual, and this initial fitting should be carried out by an orthotist or your doctor. It is used on medical advice for spinal fractures and trauma, osteoporotic compression fractures and after spinal surgery. This item is the large size; sizing should be based on trunk measurements. The brace is not a treatment in itself — follow the wearing schedule your doctor sets.
