Description

Polywax 774 is an inlay wax used in the dental laboratory to build wax patterns for cast restorations. It comes as a four-colour disc in a round lidded tin, and the colour segments make layer thickness and cross-section easy to read while the pattern is being carved. The wax is picked up with a heated waxing instrument, flowed onto the die to develop the anatomy, then carved to finish the margin and the occlusal detail once cool. What matters in an inlay wax is that it stays hard enough to carve at room temperature while still adapting to the finish line without pulling away. When the pattern is complete it is sprued, invested and burned out of the mould without leaving residue. Avoid overheating the wax, as this leaves internal stress that can distort the pattern.
