Description
This silicone casting ring is used in the dental laboratory to invest wax patterns for crown, bridge and framework castings. The sprued pattern is fixed to the base former, the ring is placed over it and the investment is poured inside. Once the investment has set, the flexible body is simply peeled away, so no ring liner or separating step is needed as with metal rings. The elastic wall lets the investment expand freely during heating, which is a direct factor in the fit of the finished casting. The ring is reusable after cleaning; investment residue must be removed completely so it does not mark the surface of later moulds. Ring diameter is chosen according to the size of the pattern and the capacity of the burnout furnace.
