Description
Adhesor Carbofine is a zinc polycarboxylate cement supplied as powder and liquid. The polyacrylic acid in the liquid bonds chemically to dental hard tissue, giving better marginal adaptation than zinc phosphate cement without irritating the pulp, which is why it is preferred as a liner under amalgam and composite in deep cavities. It is radiopaque and therefore identifiable on review radiographs, and its discontinuous porosity impedes the progress of microorganisms through the material. Working time is around 2 minutes at 23 °C and 60% relative humidity, and setting is complete in 5 to 8 minutes at 37 °C. Because the working time is short, the mix should be made in one rapid operation and seated before the cement becomes stringy. It can serve as a temporary filling for up to six months and for cementing one- to two-unit fixed restorations; longer bridges call for a higher-strength cement. It is supplied as an 80 g powder + 40 g liquid kit with a 40 g liquid refill.
