Description

Trinef broaches (from the French tire-nerf) are single-use endodontic instruments used at the start of root canal treatment to remove the pulp from the canal. The barbs raised along the shaft engage the tissue so that, as the instrument is withdrawn, the pulp comes out in as few pieces as possible; the same principle is used to retrieve cotton or paper point remnants left in the canal. The broach must be inserted passively without binding against the canal walls, then rotated gently and withdrawn — forcing rotation can fracture it, and a separated fragment complicates every later stage. It is not an instrument for enlarging or shaping the canal; that is done with files. The colour coding on the handles makes it quick to pick the right thickness out of the blister. The pack of 10 fits the single-use principle, so a fresh broach is used for every patient.
