Description
Cerestone is a Type 3 dental stone used in the laboratory for pouring working models. Its stated compressive strength is 26,500 kN/m² and setting expansion 0.23%; the low expansion figure matters because it keeps the cast close to the dimensions recorded in the impression. The manufacturer's plaster-to-water ratio is 100/28, and keeping to it is what holds strength and expansion at the published values — an over-watered mix gives a weaker, more porous cast. Setting is complete in 8 to 9 minutes, so the model can be separated from the impression without a long wait. Typical uses are denture and orthodontic model casting, articulator mounting and general working models. Powder should always be added to the water and allowed to wet through before mixing; vacuum mixing where available reduces the bubble voids that show on the cast surface. For dies, where higher strength is needed, a Type 4 stone is the better choice. The pack is net 1 kg.
