Description
Cutanplast is a sterile, absorbable haemostatic sponge made from porous gelatin. It is placed into the socket or cavity after extractions, apicectomies and comparable oral surgical procedures to support bleeding control. The porous surface promotes rupture of platelets on contact with blood and the start of the natural clotting cascade, and the material can take up around 50 times its own weight in blood. Because it is fully resorbed within a number of weeks when left in place, no second appointment is needed to remove it. Its neutral pH, non-toxic and hypoallergenic composition suits contact with soft tissue, and it may be applied dry or soaked in saline or an antibiotic solution. The dental presentation is a 10 × 10 × 10 mm cube supplied in individual sterile blisters, 24 to a box. The sterile pack is single use: an opened blister should be used on the same patient and any remainder discarded.
