Description
A flask clamp is the metal frame that keeps a packed and pressed denture flask closed and under load throughout polymerisation. The flask is set inside the frame and the screw handle on top is tightened to press the two halves of the flask together. Maintaining that pressure is what decides the result: if the flask halves separate as the acrylic expands during curing, the denture gains vertical dimension and the occlusion is thrown off. The clamp also lets the flask be carried safely into the water bath and keeps it stable there. Keeping the screw thread clean and lubricated stops the clamping force from dropping, since plaster and acrylic packed into the thread make the feel of tightening misleading. The frame opening must match the size of flask in use, otherwise the pressure is not distributed evenly across the flask.
