Description
A surgical curette is used during extractions and minor oral surgery to remove granulation tissue, cyst remnants and loose bone fragments from the socket. The double-ended design lets the operator work from different angles with a single instrument, and the curved spoon tips are shaped to reach the floor and the walls of the socket. The sharp edge of the spoon is worked against the bone surface so that soft tissue is lifted in a controlled way without unnecessary trauma to the bony wall. The stainless steel body withstands repeated autoclaving; organic residue must be cleaned off the tips completely before the sterilisation cycle. An edge that has gone blunt tears tissue rather than cutting it and makes the procedure harder, so sharpness should be checked regularly. The knurled handle keeps the grip secure with gloved, wet hands.
