Description
Glassy is a powder/liquid glass ionomer restorative cement that bonds chemically to dental hard tissue. The polyacrylic acid in the liquid binds to calcium in dentine, so marginal adaptation is achieved without a separate adhesive system, which is why materials of this class are favoured for cervical lesions and primary teeth where moisture control is difficult. The fluoride-containing glass filler takes up fluoride ions from the environment and releases them slowly, keeping fluoride available around the restoration over time. The stated compressive strength is 170 MPa and acid solubility is below 0.002 mm/h; the cement is radiopaque, so restoration margins can be followed on review radiographs. It can be used as a liner or base, for Class III and Class V cavities and for crown cementation. Powder and liquid are mixed on a glass slab or paper pad at the ratio given by the manufacturer, and the stated mixing time should not be exceeded. To prevent moisture exchange during setting, the manufacturer's protective varnish is obtained separately and applied over the set cement.
