Description
A cement plugger is the packing hand instrument used to seat and condense base cement and temporary restorative material inside a cavity. Its tips are blunt and do not cut; the aim is to adapt the material to the cavity floor and walls without leaving voids. Proper adaptation of a base cement matters because voids trapped under a restoration are a common source of post-operative sensitivity. The same instrument is used during crown and bridge cementation to spread cement over the fitting surface and then lift away the excess. The double-ended body offers working faces of different diameter and angle, so both small cavities and broad surfaces are handled with one instrument. Set cement roughens the working face and contaminates the next mix, so the instrument should be cleaned as soon as the procedure ends. The stainless steel body is suited to steam sterilisation.
