Description
This plastic spatula is used to bring alginate, dental plaster and similar model materials to a homogeneous mix inside a flexible mixing bowl. Its wide, flat blade follows the inner wall of the bowl, so pressing and folding the mix wets the powder completely and reduces the air trapped in it. Air bubbles left in an alginate or plaster mix show up as voids on the cast surface, which makes the mixing technique a real factor in impression and model accuracy. The plastic body is lighter than a metal spatula and does not scratch the inside of the bowl, so the bowl stays serviceable longer. Uncured residue rinses off easily, and set material is released by flexing the bowl. It is a routine consumable in both the surgery and the dental laboratory.
