Description
The plaster knife is a basic hand tool for working with plaster in the dental laboratory and the clinic model room. Its wide, flat blade is used to trim excess from the base margins after pouring a cast, remove overflow plaster and rough-shape the model base. During mixing it also serves to scrape the mix from the sides of the bowl back into the centre. The plastic body is lighter than a metal knife and does not scratch the inner surface of a rubber bowl, which extends the bowl's service life. Uncured plaster residue rinses off easily, so cleaning is quick; not allowing dried residue to build up keeps the edge of the blade straight. It should not be confused with a model trimmer for margin work: the plaster knife is for bulk removal and rough shaping, while precise margin finishing is done with a trimmer and abrasives.
